For a long time the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with creationists, afraid that it could give the movement more credibility. Silence is no longer an alternative.

The STR has been fighting to eliminate information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. But this is merely one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environments, which can cause variations in genes or even complete genomes. These changes can, over generations result in the development of new species. The prevailing theory of evolution is natural selection, which describes the process by which those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantageous characteristics. This variation in reproduction could eventually lead to the emergence and evolution of new species.

The word "evolution", which comes from the Latin for 에볼루션바카라 unrolling or revealing has been used in many different ways as the concept has evolved in both science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the tests of time and thousands of scientific experiments however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that the theory is controversial to argue that it should not be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their efforts to eliminate evolution from high school textbooks, including the removal of any references to the evolutionary history of humans and the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur that is thought to be an ancestral bird's parent.

Why is Evolution Important?

Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It is one of the fundamentals of biology, and aids scientists to understand how living things function and develop. Evolution also shows the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions that can lead to the development of new medications or developing new medicines, while others are driven by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, typically for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are just curious, while others have an intense faith in God.

What is Creationism?

Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken seriously. Many creationists are Christians however, not all. Creationists are generally divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.

The most popular type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in the exact manner described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation was true and that the universe as well as life on Earth were only created recently.

OECs are less well known However, they are as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and Earth are billions-of-years old and believe that evolution is a myth.

Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought resisted miracles because they feared they could lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary and special creation and consider their views to be "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this belief system, God creates the original species, and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolution changes will eventually result in new species that are similar to the original.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the first species were all created simultaneously, and that they grew slowly afterwards. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.

In general, creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This is supported by a variety of professional organizations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are however more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be incorporated into their curriculum.

What is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of high-school textbooks announced recently that they would eliminate references to evolution from their books. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. STR has secured its first victory by eliminating examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The next goal is to eliminate portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.

STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and members. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints a negative view for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of students in biology revealed that half of them did not believe evolution. The root causes are unclear, but may include religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has accomplished a lot in the past through seminars and 에볼루션 무료 바카라 lectures. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural sciences with a creationist stance. This led to an interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 6 and 7 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in major seminaries. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
