In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins and they perform different functions but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.
I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions,

3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.
Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you are in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easily accessible, especially in the case of the Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common feature across the
