The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuums uk vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
