1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They have motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an
automatic vacuum cleaner bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking
robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.
If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the
robot vacuums best which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. Also a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for
robots that vacuum and mop that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
