Both robots are adept at picking up surface dirt on hard floors and carpets, and they can easily maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It could get stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might come across. Also, keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The battery's life span is approximately an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line and has the most up-to-date features. It has self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ was more agile and faster than our top choice which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to speak commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It may get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and is often unable to supply power before returning to its original location.

It did not do well in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we tested which could be a problem for certain shoppers.
