A robot vacuum can keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency with which you'll need to manually vacuum. Find one that has good navigation, can clean stairs and corners, and has a large dust bin that requires emptying only periodically.

There are also models that mop and charge on their own, a feature that may be beneficial for those with pets or kids. Many of the best performers in our tests have great ability to overcome obstacles.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it fills up.

Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on carpets and hard floors and can move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station's dust bin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of constant use. It takes about three hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot via the app or voice.

In our testing, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying that eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to begin or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums that are cordless and look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households however, it can also fit nicely on a coffee table or on the bookshelf, that you can spin around like a magic device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large dust or crumbs. It has three suction modes to meet the task that is being completed. It quickly converts from handheld to automatic floor vacuum vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in about 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as the clip for a wand. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons models, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its sluggish run time. As CR's tests have shown, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a standard battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's enough time to clean the average-sized home, but not enough to reach every spot. (A second pass is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic Cheap Robot vacuum cleaner vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in a robot cleaner amazon. It's capable of sucking up most kinds of debris in our tests, and often goes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs and is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is better able to maneuver its own. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on both bare floors and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a wider array of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name that is found on all kinds of home electronics, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence technology to aid in navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app provides a range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. However, it wasn't particularly well with taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also a little more expensive than some of the other models we've tested which could be a deal-breaker for some buyers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that is accessible through the app. You can also create a live stream from the bagless robot vacuum's cleaning station. This feature allows you to check in on your pets or children while you're away. The filter and the dust bin can be cleaned for quick, easy cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps keep the bin clean and optimizes suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path as well as a large dustbin that holds twice as much debris than other models to keep the area clear for maximum runtime. The app also makes it easy to steer the robot manually if needed. For example, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to make it difficult for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL, however was able to continue to move across the border without registering the cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
