For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
