What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also known as bassinet or co-sleeper) is a baby cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a type of co-sleeping that is safe and does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.
They usually have a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your baby at night to feed and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from an op. Many of them are portable or foldable, so you can take them on your travels and use them as a temporary sleeping solution for newborns who aren't quite ready to move into a cot that is full size.

This is a great option for extending their life span and making the transition easier. Some have a removable section at the top that can be turned into the bassinet. Some can be used in conjunction with an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise model. This is a good choice for families that plan on frequently traveling or switching between bedrooms at night. Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models, which meant she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to soothe her child for feedings. She also appreciated that the side of the chair lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to carry the child out to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a beautiful addition to the bedroom. It's more of a designer piece than some of the other cribs that we've tested, which can appear quite utilitarian. The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to make parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and shifted through three different positions for sliding to fit under the parent's bed or in the corner, so the baby is always at hand. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to flow through, and lets you glance at your baby. And you can stow more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket under.
Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a carry-on bag so that it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room and believed that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot that was not too big or small. They also loved the large storage basket that is ideal for storing nappies or other bedding items.
This is a great option for parents who wish to co-sleep but don't want to share their bed. Or if one of the parents has mobility issues like arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers love the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora, and it also has an adjustable reflux incline that can help alleviate gas.

Our mothers appreciate the fact that the mattress is in line with NICE guidelines, which are to place the
baby bedside sleeper in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for babies, and sheets are easy to find. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs however and if you're looking for something lighter and more portable, consider one of the other options in our list.
