They also come with carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. 2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot hoover and mop we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes.
