And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum cleaner best mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum and mop robot has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
