The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum best makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good robot vacuum at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic cleaner and mop vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
