It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums with mop uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot automatic vacuum and mop to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance.
