What is a
bedside crib vs cot crib?
A bedside crib (also known as bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep safely next to you. It's a method of co-sleeping in a safe manner that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you bond with your new arrival.
The cots come with an end that can be lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c section. Many of them are
foldable bedside crib or portable, so you can take them on your travels and use them as a sleeping solution for infants who aren't quite ready to move to a full-sized cot.
Look for a crib with a mattress that is breathable, as well as an appropriate cover to keep your baby safe from staining. You'll also want to purchase baby-safe accessories like a blanket, teether and a soft toys.
If you're looking for a longer-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that let you convert them into a cot or a toddler bed when the time comes. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some even have a detachable top section that transforms into an infant bed, and some can be used on either an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families that plan on traveling frequently or switching rooms during the night. Take into consideration the dimensions of your room to ensure you be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs have risers that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a
bedside crib and cot crib made by the English brand Joie is a fantastic addition to their line of high-quality products for infants. This crib was designed to enable parents to connect and sleep side-by-side with their babies, without sharing a single bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, easy, and fun.
A smooth, steady rocking motion could be activated by pressing a button. This can soothe baby into sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their normal sleeping pattern. This is great for toddlers and older infants who struggle to settle. It can also help with digestive issues such as colic and reflux.
The crib can be locked into it once the rocking is finished to stop it from moving. It can also be secured on the side of your bed with clips and straps. This makes it extremely solid and secure, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful night's rest without having to worry about your little one rolling off into the middle of the room. The rounded cocoon shape comes with soft padded sides and double mesh windows on both sides to allow for ample air flow while making sure your baby is safe.
The mattress comes with a comfortable and firm and has an easy-to-clean cover. The four locking wheels are covered in rubber to ensure the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. Anna discovered the CoZee to provide a safe, cozy sleeping place for her baby. She loved the fact that it didn't roll like other models, which meant it wasn't waking her in the night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feedings. She also loved that the side lowered down so she didn't have to reach out over her partner to pull the baby out to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a chic accessory to any bedroom. It looks more designer than other cribs we've seen and are typically utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case so you can carry it away on holidays or if moving home. The only things you'll need to buy are a waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. The instructions and illustrations are simple to follow once you open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to make parents feel more connected to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down, and moved through three different slide positions to be placed beside the parent's bed or in the corner, so that the baby is always within reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to circulate through and lets you glance at your little one. You can also put away additional pajamas or other items in the large basket underneath.
The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and can fold flat. It also comes with a
travel cot bedside case to allow it to be carried anywhere. It was easy to move from room to space, and our mum testers believed it was the right size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents looking to co-sleep, but don't want to share their beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mums who tested it were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby in the Iora and that it included an option to have a reflux incline which helped alleviate gas.

Our moms also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines, which are to place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies and sheets are easy to find. It's not as light as other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, choose another option.
