The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot vacuums best's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuums that mop vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot vacuum best mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums with mop vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
