The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuum uk vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
